Meeting an idol or superstar can be a pleasure experience. The dream of meeting someone whom one admired while growing up can be motivational. During the New York Yankees game against the Milwaukee Brewers, the hosts celebrated their 75th Old-Timers’ Day. In this ceremony, several Yankee greats were present including “The Captain”, Derek Jeter. Brewers’ Willy Adames was left stunned when he met him.
There is a saying that says one should meet their hero. However, Adames was having none of it. He did not give up the chance to meet his childhood hero, Jeter at the Yankee stadium before the game. As Jeter was about to leave the field, the Brewers hitter skipped across to shake hands with the MLB legend. His reaction after the meeting is now going viral as fans are cheering for him.
The two would share a bride conversation while smiling. Adames’ reaction after the meet summed up everyone’ dream as he hopped around in excitement while making his way back to the dugout.
“That’s the moment I’ve been dreaming about since I was a kid. You meet your idol, the guy that you admire since you were little, the guy you want to be like,” he said when asked about the meeting with the 49-year-old Hall of Famer. “I don’t even know how to describe it,” he further added.
Willy Adames hits little-league home run in 9-2 win over New York Yankees
After the ceremony concluded there was a huge delay as the Yankee outfield turned into a lake. The game started at around two hours and thirty minutes after the original time. Willy Adames who took the headlines for his meeting and reaction with Derek Jeter, later stole the show with his performance.
The 28-year-old was pumped up after meeting his idol. He would go on to hit a little league home run due to some wild fielding from the NY Yankees. It was considered an inside-the-park home run as there was a fielding error by Giancarlo Stanton and DJ LeMahieu. Adames on the other hand would not care about his as he got a chance to impress his idol.
It also came at a great time as the game was scoreless till then. He would swing his bat and connect the ball well which was misjudged for a catch by Stanton. This allowed Mark Canha to round off the bases from first and score while Adames reached third. A poor throw from the field allowed the Brewers’ man to reach home to make it a 2-0 ball game.
The Yanks did manage to pull back to 2-2 but suffered another implosion late on. They gave up seven runs and lost the second game of the series as well. The time faces a big task of trying to avoid getting swept in their own backyard on Sunday night.
